Nonconformity Stamp by Kiza-San Nonconformity Stamp by Kiza-San
Even if you aren't conforming to the most popular trends, you're still conforming to something else. I don't believe that the so-called 'non-conformists' who don't wear name-brand clothing or wear their hair a certain way or bust their ass to be popular or something are really non-conformists. They're still sticking to a type of fad, just one a lot different than other people. It doesn't matter how many or how little people are conforming to what you are - as long as you're conforming, you are a conformist.

If you understood that at all, kudos.

Edit: This article does a lot in helping explain the point I'm trying to get across. It doesn't sum it up completely, but it's an interesting reading to supplement the stamp C:

I think non-conformity does exist, I just don't think "non-conformist" are truly non-conformist. From what I see, like you said, the "non-conformists" are still conforming in that they all: don't like mainstream things, listen to non-popular music, don't wear name brand, etc. Like you said, these people are conforming, just to something a minority of people conform to

On the other hand, I don't believe non-conformity doesn't exist. I believe it's really doing your own thing regardless. This means if you happen to like mainstream things, then do it and don't just not do it because it's mainstream. And the same if you like something that's not mainstream

People always say "be yourself!" or whatever, but really a lot of people don't be themselves, nor do people who say it really mean it. Usually what they mean is "be fun! Be crazy! Make friends! Be outgoing! etc." but what if being myself is being an anti-social who watches yaoi all day? (that's not me BTW...Sweating a little... )

Anyway, if people actually were to be themselves, regardless of what's popular or what's indie and not popular, regardless of if the real them would even be liked by others or not, then people could be non-conformist. It's basically doing whatever you want and behaving however you want regardless of what people or society are doing

It's very uncommon, considering this approach probably won't make you many friends and may actually outcast you from society altogether (after all people have to work together, but if you're doing your own thing it pretty much disregards everyone else's interests) however I still think it's possible

Scene kids/emos are NOT nonconformists.

But that doesn't mean other people can't be.

I don't buy any specific style of clothes, and I wear what I want to wear.
For example, the other day I just sat out in the rain because that's just what I wanted to do.
Or, how I hate 1D, but love The Fray.
Or, how I put steaksauce on corn and rice.
Or, how I don't wear make-up, or shave my legs.
and so on~

Nonconformity is basically doing what you want, because you want to do it, and not giving a shit is people judge.

You've got the wrong idea of what nonconformity is, because of dumb emo scene kids.
They give nonconformity a bad name ;]

In my opinion, I think people shouldn't conform to ONE thing. People should be open minded.

This is a very conformist thing to say in a sense that (hopefully) many people feel the same way, but someone needs to shove this stamp up the ass of every scene/rainbow/dinosaur/"non-conformist" kid in existence. That's just my opinion, based upon the influence of the side of the universe that decided to reveal itself to me.

The SceneRainbowDinosaur population was exactly the one I was thinking of when I made the stamp. xD So, yes, I agree.

I agree whole heartedly. Pisses me off because one or two people have said to me, "oh you're a punk, that must meant you think you don't conform when you blatantly do, to punk", so I prefer to call myself post-modern ha. I don't claim to be a complete individual, that would be ridiculous, nobody is, and even if we do have our own style/tastes, we need a starting point.

Exactly. It's why I don't have a heartache with buying clothes from name-brand stores (so long as they're reasonably priced). If it looks good, what does it matter what we're conforming to?

I realised this a long time ago, so I just don't care about it that much, because I know I'm conforming to at least something.
